The Regional Coffee Innovation Center and Museum marked its first anniversary on February 20, 2026, with a modest but meaningful gathering at Davao del Sur State College. What began a year ago as a new institutional initiative has gradually developed into a working space for training, research, and community engagement in coffee production.
Rather than holding a purely ceremonial program, the center chose to celebrate in a way that reflected its daily work. Guests were invited to bring their own reusable cups in exchange for freshly brewed coffee. The gesture was simple. It encouraged practical habits that reduce waste and lessen dependence on disposable materials. For many participants, it was a small but clear reminder that sustainability begins with ordinary choices.
The anniversary also featured a brewing and latte art competition that drew participants from different parts of Mindanao. The event placed attention on technique and consistency. Competitors demonstrated careful extraction, milk preparation, and presentation. Each entry was evaluated not for spectacle, but for balance, flavor clarity, and discipline in execution.
In its first year, the RCIC Training Center has operated as a student training facility which provides educational resources to coffee practitioners. The local coffee community now recognizes the center’s growing presence through its workshops and demonstrations and small research projects. The center enables students to apply their academic knowledge to real-world industry situations which focus on quality control and processing methods and sustainable production practices.
The anniversary served less as a celebration of achievement and more as a pause to assess direction. The organization developed a coffee culture which combines professional skills with environmental protection and collective accountability.
The RCIC projects demonstrate their support for Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education through their implementation of skills training programs and practical training activities. The projects also support Sustainable Development Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production by promoting environmentally friendly practices in the coffee industry.
The center exists as an ongoing project which has not reached its final state after one year of operation. The facility will expand its activities through competitions and facilities, but its main objective remains to enhance coffee quality standards while protecting both environmental and community interests.
